Part 51d: Some Photos of Paris

Check out mine and Louisas photos on facebook to get the full idea, but here - I dot think I need to label them...hopefully... I dont know what the hell happened to the Layout.. so ignore that as well. I think the few that may be confusing are: The one just here >>>> thats us ON the Eiffel Tower the one under the glowing Eiffel Tower is also in the Louvre I could add a million photos here but just check out prefereably Louisas photo album which you can get through by going to my profile and looking in the tagged ones of me, then clicking on Louisas album. Do it. :)

Part 51c: The Epic Blog Of Paris (cont...)(cont...)

I think I am up to Thursday, which is the last day!

Before I explain Thursday though, I should mention that SNCF (the train system -not the metro- that will get me home!) had a strike between the 4-8th of April, whilst I was going to Paris and back. Strikes are so bloody common in France, I have already witnessed 2 major ones. Bah. Anyway! The strike affected 70% of the trains running and so Alex gave me a number to call the company and see if my train trip home was running but they didnt help me so I wasn't sure. (Secretly all day, I was praying that it would be canceled!) I should probably also mention that Louisa had planned to come back to Saint. Marie with me before moving on to her next part of the adventure. Unfortunately, Eurail has stuffed her over and her ticket didnt arrive so we were stuck there, not knowing how to get her here and because Alex was having his real kids over we had to scoot... It doesnt sound that bad, but that whole underlying drama of 'will we get home?' was just there all day.

Thursday:
So, we woke up this morning with the idea that we would be leaving at 5.49pm and thus leaving us time to do the Eiffel Tower and the Catacombs. We got up sorta late though, we kind of dawdled through the morning so by the time we were out of bed, dressed, breakfasted and caffienated training to the Eiffel tower I think it was around 11-11.30ish and then after an hour of lining up and a hot dog each, we finally had our ticket and were on our way to the top of the world.

So we made it up to the second floor where you have to change elevators to go to the third. We took photos and dawdled to the next elevator only to see another bloody queue, considering we'd paid for the ticket already, we joined and half an hour later we got in the elevator and were shot up to the top. The Elevators were pretty cool actually, I mean, them themselves weren't but the views were. and we were near the windows everytime. It was weird seeing the tower from these odd angles and looking at the cogworks and such, but kinda cool. The top was pretty awesome. I mean, the fact of where we were was just incredible, on top of the Eiffel Tower looking down over all of Paris, very cool. We walked around taking it in where we saw a guy serving champagne. He was awesome and posed for our photos and everything(yea... photos...)! Best. Friend. We bought a glass to share because it was so bloody expensive and we wanted the photos. Hehe. Eventually, we got cold and went back down. Top of the Tour Eiffel-check.

Next, Louisa wanted to check out the other Statue of Liberty (Yes, there is one in Paris if you are like me and oblivious to these things) So, we walked there. It wasnt toooo far it was just down the Seine a few bridges so we eventually got there, after a few dead ends and took some photos then left to the nearest metro to go home and get packed. It was now 3pm and we had stuff to do back at our place like organise getting home maybe? We were going to see the catacombs but we didnt have time because packing+getting to the station+organising Louisa+we wanted to take photos of the area we lived in = not enough time.

We got home packed up, bummed around and time flew by until it was decided that we catch the metro over to Gare de Lyon with all our stuff, even though Louisa still didnt have her Eurail pass and thus would have to pay for a ticket we werent even sure exsisted or if it did, you could buy. We got to the station and made our way to the help centre and there just sooo many people asking because of the stupid strike. We then went to the ticket booth and asked there. There was a train later but mine had been canceled. (Un)Fortunately I could still take that train but it was at 7.40 or something meaning the train would get to Grenoble well after any trains to Goncelin. I rang Carole and she said she'd pick me up (amazing woman). I then asked about Louisa and her Eurail. The guy said they couldnt do anything and so she had no option really, but to buy her ticket to Genoble. She couldnt stay with Alex long enough to wait for her Eurail and stuff so a sum of money later she had her ticket and we then sat and waited the 2 hours for our train. We bought tea and did some touring of the station but yea...

Eventually we got on the train and said 'au revoir' to Paris, but I know I'll get back there, I cant stay away forever! The train trip was long but good. We talked about music, I slept and Louisa read, perfection.

We got back, Carole drove us home said bonjour to Benoit explained bits of our trip until finally heading of to bed. Paris was all a blur and behind me. Shattered.

Anyway, Louisa is here now and it is Saturday we are both exhausted. We are having a movie night and such possibly going to some caravan party- dunno. Yesterday I toured Louisa around Saint-Marie by bike then we rode out to Le Touvet then came back home where we sat around till we had to pick up Tim. Tim was actually really happy to see me and was chatting away like crazy. It was cool. I also had a lunch in there somewhere with Carole and Fanny and that was good :) Then yea... we watched Chicago last night and yep.. thats about it...

:) I love Paris.

Part 51b: The Epic Blog of Paris (cont..)

Tuesday:
On Tuesday we woke up pretty early with the intentions of avoiding any long queues at Versailles. So much for that. After getting up, having another French breaky and training our way to Versailles (with some difficulties, but our brilliant problem solving got us there pretty easily!) we arrived and stared at the masses of people standing in a line. I mean, I have never seen a line this long in my life. Ever. It was epic. We thought, well we have no other reason to be here, but to go into the castle... so we joined the line only to realise that this was the line for people who already had tickets... We then looked over to see another EPIC line that you needed to join to buy tickets... It was crazy. I mean there were SO many people I couldn't believe it. We decided instead of lining up, to go get lunch and check out the gardens.

The gardens were pretty awesome. They were so pretty and perfect and everything was laid out and trimmed so precisely it blew me away. We decided to get our lunch out (Croissants and Nutella Lion sandwiches) and we sat on the steps in the gardens and munched away, only to be disappointed because that sandwich that I made that morning had gone digusting and not crunchy. I was so sad. It ruined my day :P

Eventually, we decided 'right we're here, lets go check it out.. i guess...' Well, not quite like that. Louisa was really keen to go in and I was slightly intregued so we left to line up. After 2 hours of I spy and standing around in queues, we finally made it in to the castle. It was a verrrrrry pretty castle in the inside and so intricately detailed and such, I was very much impressed. Each room was a different colour or had an amazing amount of paintings and stunning sculpture like things. Wow. Its amazing that people actually lived there. Who the hell would need it?! I mean I am in awe of the architects... BAH! Okay, Versailles is so worth it, if you dont mind great masses of people walking around everywhere. Hehe. Still, very very pretty. Very amazing and I am glad I did it.

When we left the Chateau we went over to a local cafe... okay, so it was starbucks but still, it was cheaper than the Cafe next door... then we trained back into Paris city Centre. We bummed around for a while and then though we should make our way over to the Moulin Rouge, which we were kinda keen to check out because we hadnt done it already. We caught the Metro in and then we made our way to the Moulin rouge which was ... well... yea whatever. Red with a windmill on the top. Cool whatever. Oh there was an Oz Bar there which we were going to go back to on Wednesday (but we didnt end up doing...story for later) Anyway the Moulin Rouge probably looked better at night anyway but yea... Oh the area there was pretty lol. Every shop was a sex shop. All of them.

Anyway we then got a bit exhausted and caught the most packed metro train down and back to our place after buying stuff for dinner (cheese, salami and bread - toasted cheese sandwhiches? Yes please!) We got back, had toasted cheese sandwhiches and watched a French kids film which was good to watch, but Alex arrived halfway through and just laughed at us for being stupid. Then Louisa had a shower and Alex took me out for a beer at a bar just downstairs. We chatted for a while about this and that and is was a great 'get-to-know-you' session for about and hour until we both decided to go back and hit the hay. Louisa was awake so I stayed up talking to her for a bit before we just collapsed into sleep.

Wendesday:
Woo! Wednesday we got up early again and lined up for another long period of time, this time to go into the Louvre. We stood in a fast moving line, once again I was in awe of the amazing Pyramids. Eventually we were inside the building and once again was in awe. Then we had to once again line up for tickets and then finally the Louvre tour started.

We saw all the things you should see there and more but my god it was so big. BIG. and I would have been impressed being the buildings without the paintings because the archetecture was just... mindbogglingly detailed and amazing and great and wow! I just was in awe. We did see some famous things too. We saw the Venus de Milo where a random in the crowd started yelling at us for taking a photo. I mean, you're allowed to take photos and everyone was but she was yelling at us and saying that we were 'ruining history' we were all wtf? and then argued for a bit before cracking it and leaving to go find the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa kinda was... a massive let down. Its little, behind glass, with a velvet rope two meters away and a huge crowd. Whatever. I took a photo just because we were there and then got bored of it and left. The rest of the louvre was really great though. Seriously, some amazing stuff in there, but I loved the sculptures the best. The are sooo cool :)

After we left the Louvre Museum we stayed in the building and went to a shopping centre, grabbed some lunch then made our way up to the Grand Arch or 'la defense' which is just huge. Its a big square building that is hollow its, tricky to explain, but you can see it in my photos I guess, so check it out. That area was really ultra modern and it was cool looking down the road and seeing the Arch de Triumph in the background which was just so pretty and old...Anyway we were really exhausted by this point so after, we went back to our appartment where we just died and chillaxed. We were so bloody exhausted. SO exhausted. After about an hour of sitting around at home and then Alex coming back and saying hello whilst he grabbed stuff then left again shortly followed by us and we went to Maccas for coffee and internet to work out what we needed to do next. We were going to do the catacombs but they closed in an hour so it wasnt worth it as we were still a fair while away from it, like 25 minutes so like we would run out of time. Instead, we decided to look for a squish penny Machine which you can google to learn about as I totes ceebs typing it.

We made our way to Montparasse which was a while away. It is a reaaaally tall building but its really ugly but the area was nice. We toured around looking for the squished penny but we couldnt find it so we ended up touring the area before training to the Paris opera house. The opera house was so pretty and gold and detailed, like every bloody thing in Paris. Paris is just sooo friggen cool. We left the Opera house when it started to rain and we found an awesome spire thing, but as we made our way towards it we got lost and ended up at what I can only guess was the Madeline or something.. I dont know. Anyway, then we made it to the metro in order to go find the closest Australian bar which was at the Chatlet stop and by the time we got out the rain had subsided so life was good.

The Australian bar was easily found but digusting it smelled SO bad and was so not cool. It sold Fosters and that was it so repulsed, we went in search of somewhere else to have dinner. We walked around for a while looking in various bars and restaurants before finding the perfect, cheap italianish restaurant. I had Lesagne and we sat on the terrace people-watching and chatting away about god-knows what. Then we had an amazing dessert which was like... shots of panacotta and other things like tiramisu and chocolate mousse and it was all just delicious. Dinner was great.

We left later and walked in search for the Centre Pompidou, which I was hanging out to see because it was sooo damn ugly. It lived up to its name it was hideous but I just love it. We went in side to check it out and found a great shop where you can buy the coolest funky modern thing the whole thing reminded me of Auntie Jan and I was so tempted to buy everything for her- haha. Shes so creative, did you know, Ellen?

Anyway we eventually left as it was getting dark, time to start a night tour of Paris. I wanted to see everything again at night in the lights. We grabbed a coffee on the Champs Elysees and then made our way from the Arch de Triumph all the way over to Eiffel Tower which instantly became the highlight of the trip. Every hour it starts to sparkle and its beautiful. We were inspired as we made our way to it. From the tour, we walked all the way - a very long walk - to the Louvre to check out the Obelisque and the Pyramids by night, which were not as impressive as the eiffel tower, but pretty all the same by night. By this stage my shoes were killing me so I took them off. I have walked around the Pyramids with no shoes on :D haha. At about 12.10 we went off to get back home and arrived about 12.40 and then stayed up for a bit before collapsing into a deep sleep.

Okay, there'll be a part c, which I will do tomorrow. I am sooo over this and its not the time to be typing about it. I will be rushing and grumpy, like I was towards the end of that. More to come I guess :D

Part 51a: The Epic Blog Of Paris

Far out. I dont even know where to start and I apologise for my absence! Paris was just bloody incredible!! I mean.... *sighs* its just awesome.

Sunday:
I guess I should go back to the beginning, my departure! This will be a struggle to remember (which is so sad because I want to remember EVERYTHING! but you know...) So I got on the train to Grenoble at 9ish and then waited around in Grenoble until 12.05 when my train to Paris left! I was so excited taking my seat but then remembered I had a 3 hour train trip with no iPod (I friggen left it in Saint Marie!), no book, no entertainment... I ended up dozing off and letting France whizz by me. There was a woman behind me named Sarah and she was living in London but originally from somewhere in Asia who was struggling to communicate with the conductor. It turned out she was going to the Gare du Nord which was where I was meeting Louisa so we ended up tagging to each other and guess working our way to the next station after arriving in Paris. There, we both had some time to kill so we sat, had coffee and got each others facebooks (which I still have to do) and thus leaving me with an extra contact in London - win.

Eventually, Louisa arrived and we hugged and began catching up on our missing 6 years. If I didnt mention, Louisa and I went to Primary school together, then lost contact, then via facebook learned of each others voyages to Europe and thus decided to catch up in Paris. We get along surprisingly well which is great! anyway, our next goal was to get to Alex's place who was who we were staying with. We caught the Metro down to Porte de St. Cloud then walked to his appartment. We couldnt find the exact street number so we called him, only to find out we were just next to it! He came out and welcomed us and then showed us to his ... incredibly awesome Parisien Apparetment. I mean, it was pretty spacious, very well lit with incredible windows and just bloody hell, the apparment was more than we could have expected from any hostel! It was just fantastic and it was free and our host was soo helpful! He gave us a set of keys too and just said come and go as you please! He works a lot so he was often out and at night too, so it was like we had our own appartment! soooooo cool. We sat and chatted to Alex for about 40 minutes, got to know each other and got some tips about Paris, it was good. 10/10 so far.

Louisa and I then decided to just do a quick tour around because it was about 5.30 by this time and we had nothing else to do so we trained over to the Arch de Triumph (which become 'our thing') and checked that out then walked down to, yes, the Eiffel Tower - it was seriously awesome. We left the Eiffel Tower after some fairy floss and much oggling with plans to return other days then went got dinner, then came home and we stayed up talking in our room for a few hours before going to sleep.

Monday:
Monday was pretty jampacked as far as seeing things goes. We got up bright and early (like 8 or something) and had breakfast with Alex who had bought us all croissants and pain au chocolat which was nice so we sat with that and juice and discussing our plans of the day. Around 9.30-10ish we left and made our way over to the Sacre Coeur.

When we got to the sacre coeur stop we walked from the Metro station up a really busy street which was just tourist shops all the way down (some stops were made) and it was pretty cool but so packed! Eventually we got to the base of the church and stared up and the thing. It was so pretty. Just white and nice. We made our way up, getting harrassed by the 'hakuna matata' men... dont even ask... before stopping just before the stairs up to sit and have vegemite sandwiches. Eventually we got up again walked to the sacre coeur toured the inside and then left - it was pretty impressive.

Next, we metro'd over to the Notre Dame which was just huuge. Everything is so big! We got people to take our photos and we saw the hunchback and even some gypsys asking for money (it was like the movie all over again!) Then joined the queue to enter. Inside was so packed as well. It was an amazing and enormous cathedral and the windows ans sculptures and such we quite incredible. It was just great. You could go up to the top of the cathedral and look over Paris, but the line was phenomonal so we said goodbye to Notre Dame and walked back down to the Eiffel Tower, for the second time.

Along the way there were markets all the way down the Seine river so we pondered through them and it was very leisurely no pressure to see anything-style so it was great. We did get thirsty though so we stopped at a cafe and hot coffee and rested our feet for a bit. Eventually we made our way to the Tower and got some awesome ice cream and sat around talking again, avoiding the millions of pigeons and people selling Mini Eiffel Towers. Awful.

We left the Eiffel tower and then made our way to the Champs Elysees and walked around a shopping centre and stared at the the Arch de Triumph before walking down the road towards the Obelisk and of course, the Louvre. On the way we got distracted by the Army Museum which I think is where Napoleon is buried. We stayed there for a while, because it was cool and golden :D The Obelisk, I had alreadty seen so I was like... yea ptch. But as we made our way in to the Louvre Gardens and I was getting excited because I knew I hadnt been there yet! Unfortunately, we got exhausted and couldnt make it to the end to the pyramids and such just yet so we sat in the gardens and talked for a while to regain our energy.

We eventually got back up and hoorah! made it to the Louvre getting distracted firstly by the Arch de Triumph du Carousel. Its quite cool standing there and looking through it becuase from this one point you can see the actual Arch de Triumph, the Obelisk and the Eiffel tower at once, then turn around 180 and right behind tou is the Louvre. We were there quite late so we just stared and oggled over the Pyramids (renamed triangles) which were sooo impressive. I mean, I was impressed. VERY impressed. I loved it there. so relaxing and pretty. Also, because we were there late and it was Monday, we were the only ones there and so it was great for photos!

Eventually, we metro'd back home and then got amazing 10euro pizzas and ate our night away. It was a huuuuuuuuge but amazing day. There was more little things in there that we saw on Monday but..you know... SO much and I dont remember all there names D:

More to come!! + Photos!!

Part 50: je devrais devenir un écrivain/I should be a writer

**Français**

Salut!

Ciao

**English**

Hello! I do not know how to start the blog today. Sometimes it's like that ... I didnt do too much but I dont want to start every blog with 'So! Today I ....' So ... I must think a little ... Uh ...

Douglas' Saturday

By Douglas Sedunary
Once upon a time, a little man named Douglas woke up with the good intentions of doing many things for his trip to Paris tomorrow. He ate his breakfast and he even said 'no' when Carole, his host mum, asked him if he wanted to go skiing because he had too many things to do! (I think it's good that I write my blog with 'He' rather than' I 'because it is good practice!)

After breakfast, Douglas went to his room and he talked with his brother, Lachlan, with webcam. The conversation was long and thus, good. Douglas and Lachlan had a lot of things to discuss. Douglas introduced his host brother, Tim, and Tim's sister, Fanny, and then the 4 people talked about anything. Later still, Douglas' real father, mother and sister came and took part in the conversation too - perfect! (Though, next time I should ask Carole and Benoit! Hehe)

When the conversation ended Douglas did things that were in the list he wrote last night to do today. He cleaned his room and the bathroom, he did some laundry and he did stuff to prepare for tomorrow. With the Beyliers he also ate lunch and he...has now forgotten.

Currently, Douglas is sitting on his bed at 7:08 while he waits for the Beylier family (who are out with friends at their place) so he can eat dinner. He also wants Louisa to reply to the message he has sent ... He will see...

The end

That was different, wasn't it?

Oh Happy Easter! Ciao

**English**
I decided that if I can, I'll write in French and English, starting in French because, well, I'm in France! So! What did I do today?

This morning I woke up early (8:10!) because I went to Grenoble with Maria (I'd like to point out here that Fanny has said she thinks I'm in love with Maria, I'' say this: the only reason I talk about her all the time is because I do not have many friends and we get along very well) to see the movie 'Alice in Wonderland' and also to fill in the day!

The train left at 9:41 so for about 20 minutes before that, I talked with my family (including my brother who I do not see [I used webcam] since I left) was good but too short therefore we decided we're going to talk about tomorrow too. Carole took me to the station and I then took the train to Grenoble. After I took the tram and found a cafe where I bought a coffee because Maria sent me a text saying that she would be late. I watched people around me and made a drawing to pass time. At 11:10 (40 minutes late .. but she had a good reason so it was agreed) she arrived and we went to eat our lunch. Because it is (err. ..) Good Friday today, I ate the soup of the day because it didnt have any meat.

After lunch we went shopping and look for a cinema because the first cinema we chose was closed. I remembered that there is a cinema near Perret Tower so we took the tram and we arrived with perfect timing because the cinema was open and the film began in 5 minutes. We bought the tickets and the 3D glasses and watched the movie. It wasnt bad, but I was very happy because I understood even if it was in French.

When the movie finished I said goodbye to Maria and I left. It was strange because I met Letissa on the train and she took me home. It was lucky! Uh ... After I arrived I went on my computer and I didnt do much ... I collected Tim from the Guarderie .... but really...I did nothing.

(Oh, I ate meat for dinner today but PTCH .. I like quiche, therefore I had to eat it! Sorry if you care!)

Goodbye!

Part 48: Le Poisson

**Français**

Alors!

So! Today is the first of april so where is my fish? In France, and maybe some other countries, there is a joke when you stick a fish (not a real fish, I think!) On your friends backs. Fortunately it has not happened to me because at university, I think, nobody knew about it. The only reason I heard that joke exists is because in the car after college Tim had stuck a fish (with lots of colour) on the Caroles seat. I was confused but after Carole explained what happened, I thought that Tim was very clever. (Carole, it is very difficult for me to put these accents! But I did it because I want real French)

So, it was also my last class at the university today. I woke up at 7am in the morning (but you already knew that!) And I wrote a blog, took my shower ... blah blah At 8:10 I went and met Letissa who drove me to the station. When we arrived, I noticed that I forgot my wallet! Bah!Every time I go out, I check that I have my wallet, my iPod and my phone but this morning (and I do not know why!) I didn't check and thus paid the price. Fortunately Letissa bought my train ticket but for the rest of the day, I had nothing, so I could not buy my lunch, a drink, nothing. Bah!

I arrived at university and talked with my friends until the teacher came in and my last class started. We learned about Easter and its history, it was a little interesting because we learned the different ways that different countries celebrate it. Yeah ... At lunch I was very lucky because most people have taken him to share a little taste to say 'goodbye' to me and another friend and voila! I could eat (even with no money)!

After a great lunch, the class has begun. We watched a film called 'Les Choristes' which I saw 2-3 days ago! It wasn't bad though, because this time I understood more than before:) Finally, university finished and everyone left. I went with Maria (who I'll see 'Alice in Wonderland' with tomorrow) and a German, Kyra to take the tram. Kyra and I have decided to walk around Grenoble but Maira needed to go home. It was the first time I properly talked with Kyra and it was nice. Kyra is very kind and we get along well. Unfortunately she goes Germany for the 2 weeks I'm here all alone, so I do not know when we will meet again ... I do not know: S

After saying goodbye to Kyra I took the train and meet Carol I at the station and after Carole did some things, I drove home. I have more confidence when I drive now, maybe because now that I never drive, I forgot how to drive normally and I only know how to drive on the right ... Well, I dont know, anyway, it's good for me when Beyliers leave me!

OH! Also, I liearnt today that because I have my European passport (brittish) I can stay in France without a visa! Now all I need is: a house, a job and some courage to stay here!

So that's all! In French! (and now English)... ergh. Now I have to translate for you who can not understand ... yay ...Well... not anymore.. if you dont understand French or English, you're screwed :D
